The day before valentines day, in front of  family and friends, Casey and Owen declared their love for one another.  Casey and Owen were both very relaxed and laid back, enjoying their day, suit jackets and ties were left at home, Casey kicked off her heels once the ceremony was over. Their wedding was their own, unique to them, which makes their day even more special. We had our fingers crossed for good weather, the weather forecast had predicated rain, then just thunder storms and the back to rain, so things were not looking good. The day started off with rain but thankfully it cleared up and stay away right until we were just finishing up and heading to the reception.

Thank you Owen and Casey for sharing your day with me, it was an honor to capture it.

Thank you!! Karissa, I mainly used the 50mm on the individual and bride and groom shots. For group shots and ceremony, I mainly used the 24-70mm

your shots are nice & crisp you using a 50mm?congrats

Today is Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Tuesday and while we did not have pancakes for dinner we did have them for dessert.

We added some extra’s to our pancakes, ice-cream and maple syrup….yummm!! I also cheated and we used store bought pancakes instead of making our own, much easier and still tasted great.

Hope that you are having a great Tuesday!

How did I miss this pancake thing. I keep seeing it everywhere. And I love pancakes! ;)

My brother has had a pet ferret for a few years now and he is always asking if I could take photos. Not of him and his pet, but just the ferret! I had always said no because, well ferrets kinda creep me out. They remind me of a really big mouse or rat, both of which I would run screaming in the opposite direction if I saw one. After many attempts at trying to convince me that the ferret, named Snickers, was cute, lovable and even did tricks I still wasn’t convinced. Last December I finally relented and agreed to take photos of Snickers, I still was hesitate and  told him that I wasn’t going to be getting close too little old Snickers.

The day of the photo shoot arrived and I had myself convinced that this would be a piece of cake, Snickers would keep her distance and my brother would make sure there was always a good distance between myself and Snickers. As soon as he stepped out the car with snickers I started to have a sinking feeling, “what the heck was I thinking’ crossed my mind! Snickers moves fast and a few times was headed straight towards me (getting way too close for my liking), I may have even shrieked a few times. I am sure my brother and his girlfriend thought I was insane to be so worried. I liked Snickers the best when she was in her exercise ball or on her lead (oh yea, you can get a lead for a ferret)

It has taken me until now to edit the photos because I just couldn’t bring myself to look at my brothers beloved pet, it still freaks me out.  While I was editing I did come across this photo that I thought was cute (well cute for a ferret).

So the point of this post, I guess I could say we should all go beyond our comfort zones, try something different. The reality, just wanted to share this experience with you.

So tell me, what is the strangest/ creepiest thing you have photographed?

Thanks Vicki. I was so glad when we were finished and the ferret was put away, not my fave animal!

I couldn’t photography a ferret either! You’ve done a great job!

I spent the better part of the day sorting through some of my very old backup discs of personal files. It took me longer that it should have because I kept stopping to look through old photos, even thought there is so much technically wrong with the photos, they made my heart sing. The joy of knowing that I will always have a record of events and every day happening, being able to look back and see the changes in the people I love…..it makes me smile. I use to be much better at taking photos just for the sake of taking photos, not worrying about how “perfect” the photo needed to be. I now have catalogued and backed-up these files, making my own personal vault of memories!

Going through these old images reminded me that recording the everday is just as import as recording the bigger events in life, this is something that I need to remind myself of often. Take photos often!! Photograph the every day, things like your kids getting ready, playing their favourite game, sports practice, arts and crafts. These daily happenings are just as important as the big events and they should be remembered!

My next goal, print more personal photos. Well actually just start printing them, get them into albums! I find this daunting because I take so many photos and it would take me forever to get them all in the album. What do you do with your photos, are they all stored on the computer, in albums, photobooks? I would love to know your ideas on how to best handle getting them printed.

Hi Melanie, love your pics & love your blog….very fresh. I too have the same hassle with personal pics. Atleast your starting to print them…very guilty!!

Hope that you all had a fantastic day!

I had a really relaxed enjoyable day, stayed away from the crowds this year and just took some time to enjoy the simple things! I thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in, the warm weather, picking up my new microwave, hanging out with my family, watching my nieces show off their new found swimming skills and generally just being in the moment.

Had to include a photo, because lets face it posts are boring without them, my sister Sarah enjoying a late afternoon swim with her very iconic swagman hat on.

Little Miss Issy had her haircut for the very first time, she was super excited about going to the hairdressers and she knew exactly how she wanted to have it cut. Issy being the diva that she is loved the pampering of the experience, getting her hair washed at the salon and of course she had all the staff wrapped around her little finger. The cutest thing was the following morning after the haircut, she excitedly told me that her hair had stayed short. It seems that she was worried that the haircut was only going to last until the next day, so cute!!

Issy is loving her hair shorter, she has become the hair flicking queen!

I wish that I had of taken a photo of her hair just before she went to get it cut, I found this photo of just before christmas to give you an idea of how long it was before.

Workshop Fun

January 24, 2010

Last week I attended my first photography workshop, I learnt so much and I met so many great photographers. It was so much fun and I am looking forward to attending more workshops in the future. It was great meeting other like minded people, talking photography and sharing ideas!

I was super excited to be attending this particular workshop as it was being held by Jasmine Star! I have been following Jasmine’s blog for sometime and I was excited when the workshop was first announced, I hesitiated about going and by the time I had made up my mind the workshop was sold out. Thankfully Jasmine decided to hold a second workshop, when I recieved the email letting me know I didn’t risk missing out a second time and booked straight away. It was inspiring to hear Jasmine’s story, where she has come from and how she got to where she is now.  I love seeing how other people shoot, I was looking forward to seeing Jasmine in action and seeing how she captures such emotion in her photos and she did not disappoint!

I was a pleasure meeting Jasmine and JD, they are both very down to earth people.

The workshop was hosted the Cathy Crawley who did an amazing job bringing all the details together. The workshop was held at the beautiful crusie resturant, with a stunning view over the Sydney Harbour. The Dresses where provided by Catherine Colubriale, hair and makeup from Lyndal Quinn-Tuccarone and the flowers were by Daisy Chain Florist.

We had some awesome models, first up is Kara

We also had Alana and Karim modeling for us, they are such a cute couple and were such good sports about having a bunch of cameras pointed at them.
